Reasons for Updating the 2019 Study Plan in the Bachelor of Pharmacy Program

The modification of the study plan for the academic year 2014 was undertaken as part of the University of Modern Sciences' periodic updating procedures for the Bachelor of Pharmacy program. This was done to ensure that the program specifications and curricula remain aligned with the rapid global developments and advancements in pharmaceutical sciences. As a result, the graduating students in the year 2022/2023 will be the last cohort to follow an academic record that corresponds to the 2014 study plan.
Following the amendment, the study plan for the academic year 2019 was introduced and implemented starting from the 2019/2020 academic year. Consequently, the graduating students in the year 2023/2024 will be the first batch to complete their studies based on the revised 2019 study plan. The following are the reasons for updating the study plan:
1.    Updating the descriptions of academic programs and courses in accordance with the templates and requirements set by the Academic Accreditation Council of the Ministry of Higher Education in Yemen.
2.    Addressing the needs of the labor market by incorporating modern requirements and preparing qualified pharmacists. This entailed introducing new courses that align with the standards of Arab, regional, and international universities, particularly in the field of pharmaceutical development.
3.    Notable changes and updates to the program included an increase in the number of credit hours from 170 to 180. Some of the prominent courses that were added or modified include:
a. Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
b. Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmacoepidemiology.
c. Expansion of the Pharmacology courses from three to four
d. Expansion of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry courses from three to four
e. Addition of a course in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
These updates were made to ensure that the Bachelor of Pharmacy program remains comprehensive, up-to-date, and in line with the evolving needs and expectations of the pharmacy profession and related industries.
By implementing these changes, the University of Modern Sciences aims to equip its graduates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to excel in their future careers and contribute to the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences at both local and global levels.
